Bayern Munich and Germany legend Thomas Muller commented in a recent interview about Lionel Messi and his role in the next World Cup, which is co-hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada. The German spoke about Messi’s role, which could be good or very bad for Argentina.

The 2014 World Cup winner in Brazil addressed the issue of Messi in the World Cup, while also commenting on the future of his national team in this new World Cup, where Germany is obliged to qualify for the round of 16.

Thomas Müller on Messi: He could change the balance of the team, for better or worse

The German strategist and former World Cup player Thomas Müller gave his analysis of the role that Lionel Messi will have in the next World Cup 2026. The Bavarian lost the final of the MLS against Inter Miami of the Argentine and his friends with a score of 3-1.

Messi, by beating Müller, ended a run of seven wins in 10 meetings in favor of the German, including Bayern Munich’s 8-2 thrashing of Barcelona and the final of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where the Germans were crowned champions with a one-nil scoreline at the Maracana.

In an interview with MagantaTV, the German commented that the 38-year-old Argentine star would introduce a factor of uncertainty in the performance of the current world champion team.

“That could, of course, completely change the dynamics of this team, for better or worse”

The German remarked that the Albiceleste achieved a good qualification with and without the presence of Messi and showed his doubts about whether the level he showed in the MLS really has the same impact in a World Cup.

In the interview, the topic of the German national team and its opponents in the 2026 World Cup, Curacao, Ivory Coast and Ecuador, was also addressed, where the German commented that Germany must be in the round of 16, but that it will not have an easy path when facing what was once the African champion team and an Ecuadorian team that was runner-up in the Conmebol qualifiers.

“At first glance, when reading the names of the opponents, it is obvious that advancing is a must”
