Steph Curry sets the record straight making it clear his era isn’t ending anytime soon

What a time to be a basketball fan. The farewell tours of all-time greats are never easy, and there’s always a sense of uncertainty when a veteran’s season comes to an end. For fans of the Golden State Warriors-and especially those who follow Stephen Curry-that feeling has started to grow. Some believe he deserves a stronger finish than what has been an inconsistent stretch for the team, yet everything continues to point toward loyalty to Golden State.

Curry is one of those players who naturally draws retirement questions as he gets closer to 40. After the season-ending loss to the Phoenix Suns, and considering he missed time earlier in the year due to injury, many wondered if this could be the last time seeing him on an NBA court. The speculation picked up quickly, especially given his 17-year career and status as a four-time champion.

A clear message after a tough exit

That context made his postgame availability even more relevant. Following the Warriors’ 111-96 loss in the win-or-go-home play-in game, Curry addressed his future directly. He was coming off a difficult performance, scoring 17 points on 4-of-16 shooting, a sharp contrast from the 35-point outing he delivered against the Los Angeles Clippers just days earlier. Still, the bigger takeaway wasn’t the stat line-it was his message.

Despite the noise surrounding his future, Curry made it clear that retirement is not part of his immediate plans. His comments reinforced that he expects to remain in the league for multiple seasons, pushing back against the idea that this loss could signal the end of his era. Reports from multiple outlets echoed the same takeaway: there is no indication that he is preparing to step away anytime soon.

Production still backs the belief

Even with the ups and downs of the season, Curry’s performance remains at a high level. He averaged 26.6 points and 4.7 assists, numbers that continue to place him among the league’s most productive guards. While questions about the Warriors’ direction persist, his individual output suggests he is far from finished.

At 38, Curry is navigating the later stage of his career, but his approach hasn’t shifted. The expectation internally and externally is that he will continue to compete, rather than transition into retirement discussions. The idea of his era ending may be a popular topic, but it doesn’t align with how he views his own timeline.
