The tension that unfolded on April 7 didn’t end on the field. What began as a confrontation between Jorge Soler and Reynaldo López during a game between the Los Angeles Angels and the Atlanta Braves has now added a new chapter off the diamond following the review of suspensions by Major League Baseball.
Reynaldo López’s wife reacts
The altercation started in the fifth inning, when López threw a high and inside pitch that clipped the catcher’s glove. The reaction was immediate: Soler charged the mound, both players stared each other down for a few seconds, and the situation quickly escalated into a bench-clearing brawl. Both players were ejected on the spot.
Initially, the suspensions were severe. However, after the appeal, MLB reduced the penalties: López’s suspension went from seven to five games, while Soler received a final four-game suspension. Although the decision aimed to balance the situation, not everyone was satisfied.
One of the most notable reactions came from outside the field. Jhilaris, Reynaldo López’s wife, took to social media to express her disagreement with the revised ruling, making it clear that the decision was not well received in their inner circle.
Beyond the disciplinary outcome, the incident carries an interesting backdrop. Both players were teammates in 2024 with the Braves, adding a personal layer to the conflict. López himself later admitted he had no intention of starting a fight, calling what happened “a shame.”
