Troy Aikman hints at Travis Kelce’s next career move and it’s not football

With another season still ahead of him, Travis Kelce remains firmly focused on helping the Kansas City Chiefs compete in 2026.

But around the league, conversations about his future beyond football are becoming harder to ignore, and a recent comment from Troy Aikman may have offered the clearest glimpse yet of what lies ahead.

Speaking on the “New Heights” podcast alongside Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce, Aikman reflected on Jason’s transition into broadcasting before casually hinting at what could come next.

“It was the Kelce sweepstakes,” Aikman said, referencing Jason’s move into media after retiring in 2023. “Jason, to be a teammate at ESPN has been awesome. I’m not just saying this… I think he’s an absolute superstar in this profession.”

Then, almost as an aside, Aikman added: “And now, if we get his brother… we got something.”

Jason Kelce‘s post-playing career has unfolded quickly. Since joining ESPN, he has become a regular presence across its NFL coverage, bringing a mix of personality, insight and authenticity that has resonated with audiences.

Aikman, who shares the broadcast stage on Monday Night Football, made it clear that Jason’s impact extends beyond the screen.

“He makes us better,” Aikman said, highlighting how seamlessly the former Philadelphia Eagles center has adapted to life in the studio.

That success has naturally shifted attention toward Travis, whose on-field achievements and off-field charisma make him an equally compelling candidate for a similar role.

Kelce has not been shy about his long-term ambitions. The Chiefs tight end has previously spoken about his desire to move into broadcasting, even expressing interest in calling games and experiencing the role firsthand. That openness has only fueled interest from major networks.

ESPN chairman James Pitaro has already indicated that the network would welcome conversations with Kelce when the time comes, citing his ability to attract new audiences and expand the NFL‘s reach. But ESPN is not alone in monitoring the situation.

Networks lining up as Kelce’s value grows

With the NFL‘s media landscape evolving, Kelce is expected to be one of the most sought-after figures once he steps away from the field. Reports have suggested he could command a deal worth around $15 million annually, with Amazon‘s “Thursday Night Football” among the potential landing spots.

His appeal extends beyond traditional football audiences. Kelce‘s crossover presence in entertainment and pop culture has elevated his profile, making him a unique asset for networks looking to broaden their reach.

At the same time, subtle signs within Kansas City suggest long-term planning is underway. The Chiefs have explored options to strengthen the tight end position, a move that aligns with preparing for an eventual transition.

Still one more chapter to write

Despite the growing speculation, Kelce‘s immediate focus remains unchanged. After opting to continue his career, he is set to return for what will be his 14th NFL season, still playing a central role in the Chiefs‘ offense.

But Aikman‘s comments reflect a broader sentiment across the league. Kelce‘s future in broadcasting is no longer just a possibility, it is increasingly viewed as an inevitability.

Whenever that transition comes, it appears the stage is already set.
