Manny Pacquiao and his dream of seeing his son Jimuel make his debut on Saturday

The new boxing dynasty does not pass the baton, but shares it. Like a good father, Manny Pacquiao bites his nails with nervousness and excitement for his son Jimuel’s professional debut as a boxer. Like the good pugilist he is, the great champion does so from a position that few fathers in this sport can boast: by staying active.

At 46 years of age, Manny stops the march of the clock of life. Time does not pass him by. He stays fresh and in top condition to stay in the ring. He trains and exercises daily because he is open to the possibility of accepting a fight in the short or medium term to prove that his fists and physical condition are better than ever.

But he is also keeping an eye on what his boy is doing, who will fight on Saturday, November 29 at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California. At 24 years of age, Emmanuel “Jimuel” Pacquiao will take on fellow Filipino Brendan Lally in a four-round lightweight bout. In this way, the young heir begins a career alongside his father, a living legend who is waiting for an opponent

Jimuel trains at the Wild Card gym under the guidance of Marvin Somodio, Manny’s longtime assistant. In turn, Pacquiao’s father got back in shape after drawing with Mario Barrios. One of his goals is to seek a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr., which is why he is up to date with his physical preparation

While a possible fight with Mayweather Jr, or whoever, is being discussed, Manny is focusing on one thing for now: supporting and encouraging his son Emmanuel. More than a boxer, he wants to be a father supporting the boy at his starting point in professionalism.

Emmanuel and the Pacquiao legacy

In favor or against, depending on the glass you look at it from, the boy will step into the ring with the pressure of his surname. There are heirs who are weighed down by their father’s career, but there are others who can cope with it. Jimuel will seek to distance himself from this burden with his own qualities and a style that gives him originality to generate a personal identity. If he wins, the comments will be that he is a worthy son of his father. If he loses, they will say that he cannot live up to the legacy.

Manny, the businessman

Apart from witnessing his son’s debut, Pacquiao has another reason to be happy about the Temecula event. It marks the US debut of Manny Promotions. The promoter aims to establish itself as a platform to promote emerging talent, including Emmanuel. The champion wants to boost new careers.
