For Erin Andrews, the most personal battle she’s facing isn’t on the sidelines of an NFL game, it’s one she continues to fight quietly, with resilience that mirrors her on-air persona.
The longtime broadcaster revealed she recently underwent another round of IVF that was unsuccessful, but made it clear she has no intention of stepping away from the process.
Speaking on her Calm Down With Erin and Charissa podcast, Andrews struck a balance between realism and belief as she discussed her hopes of having another child at 47.
“I know what history says. It’s not great with producing eggs and the viability of your eggs,” Andrews said. “But there’s just something in me that’s like, ‘watch me do it.'”
Andrews and her husband, former NHL player Jarret Stoll, welcomed their son Mack via surrogate in 2023 following years of fertility struggles and multiple IVF attempts.
The couple’s journey has been marked by both breakthrough and heartbreak, something Andrews has consistently chosen to share publicly.
That openness has offered a rare window into a process many experience privately. It has also highlighted a defining trait that those close to Andrews recognize immediately – her competitiveness.
Co-host Charissa Thompson described that mindset as central to why Andrews continues to push forward.
“It’s a blessing and a curse in your life, how competitive you are,” Thompson said. “You will not stop until someone makes you stop.”
That determination has been a constant throughout Andrews‘ career, from becoming one of the most recognizable faces in NFL broadcasting to navigating serious personal challenges, including her battle with cervical cancer in 2016.
Now, it is shaping how she approaches fertility at an age when the odds are widely known to be slim. Medical data shows the chances of a successful pregnancy using one’s own eggs in the late 40s are extremely low, a reality Andrews does not ignore.
“I just feel like I believe my body can do it,” she said. “Even though I know the numbers.”
Balancing hope, humor and hard realities
Even in difficult moments, Andrews has maintained a sense of perspective. She has often used humor to describe her situation, acknowledging where she stands while refusing to let it define her “I’m really in the fourth quarter,” she joked. “I may be in OT.”
That blend of honesty and lightness has resonated widely, with fans sharing their own stories of fertility struggles and offering encouragement. Many have praised Andrews for speaking openly about a topic that can still carry stigma.
Her willingness to discuss both success and failure has helped shift the conversation, particularly for women navigating similar paths later in life.
A journey that goes beyond outcomes
For Andrews, the focus remains on continuing the process for as long as it feels right. While she already considers herself fortunate to have her son, the desire to expand her family has not faded.
Thompson acknowledged that reality while reflecting on what Andrews has already achieved “You’ve already won,” she said, pointing to the couple’s journey to parenthood.
But Andrews‘ perspective is clear: the story isn’t finished. Whether or not she ultimately has another child, her approach, which is grounded in persistence, transparency and belief, and has already made her journey one that extends beyond sports and into something far more personal.
