The New York Yankees offseason isn’t going smoothly, with every MLB team making moves to strengthen their rosters. The most successful franchise in baseball history can’t afford to fall behind if they want to win another World Series.
In this context, MLB trade rumors have emerged suggesting the Yankees are seeking a starting pitcher via trade, with their sights set on a National League arm.
A Trade to Shore Up an Injury-Plagued Rotation
Reports indicate the New York Yankees have been in contact with the Miami Marlins to gauge the availability of starting pitcher Edward Cabrera, according to Chris Kirschner and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
This potential move would help stabilize a starting rotation filled with uncertainty heading into next season, especially with the Yankees likely to be without multiple arms early in the year.
“With uncertainty surrounding their starting rotation to begin the season, the New York Yankees are talking to the Miami Marlins about a potential trade for starting pitcher Edward Cabrera, league sources told The Athletic.”
The Bronx Bombers aren’t alone in the chase. The Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants are also reportedly interested in the 27-year-old right-hander, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
“Yankees are talking to Marlins about Edward Cabrera, a terrifically talented pitcher coming off an excellent year (3.53 ERA). Cubs and Giants (and others) also believed to be interested. Marlins pitching depth allows them to consider.”
Edward Cabrera remains under team control with Miami through the 2028 MLB season. Projections suggest he could earn approximately $3.7 million in arbitration in 2026, though no agreement has been finalized.
The 2025 MLB season was, without question, the best of his major-league career. Cabrera posted a 3.53 ERA (second-lowest of his career), a 1.228 WHIP, and a career-high 150 strikeouts across 137.2 innings pitched, solidifying himself as one of the Miami Marlins’ most reliable starters.
