Dodgers take advantage of Bo Bichette while New York teams fight over Freddy Peralta

The MLB market has entered a key phase in January 2026, and the name Bo Bichette has become the epicenter of one of the most intense free agency battles. After seven seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, the All-Star infielder finds himself at a crossroads involving the heaviest payroll teams in Major League Baseball.

The Dodgers and the $120 million offer

The Los Angeles Dodgers, current champions after defeating Toronto in the 2025 World Series, have emerged as the favorites to secure Bichette’s services. The team is rumored to be preparing a contract close to $120 million, seeking to replicate the success of previous signings with infield stars.

The Dodgers’ strategy envisions Bichette as their long-term starting second baseman, a transition the player himself already accepted during the Fall Classic due to his defensive limitations at shortstop and a recent injury.

A slow market for Bo Bichette

Despite his offensive talent (he hit .311 with 18 home runs in 2025), Bichette’s market has not moved as quickly as expected. The main reason, according to experts such as Tim Kelly, is the knee injury he suffered in September last year.

Bichette suffered a posterior cruciate ligament sprain that kept him out for much of the postseason. Although he returned for the World Series, he was seen with limited mobility, which has led teams to conduct extensive medical evaluations before committing to a nine-figure contract.

Freddy Peralta also moves the MLB market

While the baseball world watches Bichette, the “Big Apple” is having its own battle for starting pitching. The Yankees and Mets have focused their efforts on acquiring Dominican Freddy Peralta, ace of the Milwaukee Brewers.

  • Yankees desperately seeking stability in rotation after surgeries to top arms and poor performance from prospects
  • Mets: They want to make a definitive impact in the National League East and see Peralta as the ideal complement to their revamped pitching staff.
