Lionel Messi reveals that he feels ‘strange’ when speaking English

Lionel Messi has shown that, even at 38, he is still a force to be reckoned with in soccer. However, he has also shown himself to be a reserved person who shies away from media attention.

This discreet personality goes hand in hand with his relationship with the English language, which he avoids whenever possible in interviews and which he revealed makes him feel “strange” when speaking it.

Leo explains why he doesn’t speak English

The Inter Miami captain has been the talk of the town after his statements on the Argentine streaming channel LuzuTV, where he revealed that he avoids speaking any language other than Spanish.

It all started when interviewers Nicolás Occhiato and Diego Leuco asked him about a promotional video he recorded with Neymar and Luis Suárez to wish everyone a happy Chinese New Year when he was still playing for Barcelona. The curious thing is that his teammates dare to speak in Chinese, while Leo does so in Spanish.

Specifically about that clip, Messi said he had previously agreed with the club that he would not change his language out of modesty. However, Lionel later revealed that he does not feel comfortable speaking English either:

I feel strange when speaking, I don’t like it and I prefer to do everything in Spanish, but as for English, I think I can speak and others understand me.

Far from being a lack of interest-he revealed that he does speak English in private-this decision also reflects his simple and prudent personality, which has not changed even after spending several years in Europe and now in the United States.

Meanwhile, Leo has just had a great year with Inter Miami, winning the MLS Cup and being awarded MVP and Golden Boot. With the World Cup approaching, it is no surprise that he wants to defend the title he won in 2022 with Argentina.

However, he has revealed that he is still evaluating his participation in the tournament and that his decision will depend on his physical condition.
