Lionel Messi has just had a great year with Inter Miami, winning the MLS Cup and being awarded the Golden Boot and two consecutive MVP awards.

Now, far from official commitments and competitive demands and vacationing in his hometown of Rosario, Argentina since the end of December, Leo received a new distinction to add to his trophy case.

Messi adds a new medal to his collection

During his stay in his native country, the ’10’ took advantage of his free time to reconnect with family and friends, celebrate the holidays, and recharge his batteries.

However, before returning to the United States and resuming his sporting calendar, the Inter Miami captain was also recognized by the city that saw him grow up. As part of the celebrations for Rosario’s 300th anniversary, Leo received a medal from the city government, along with other prominent local figures.

This was announced on the official Instagram account of the Municipality of Rosario, which announced that Messi was awarded “THE MEDAL THAT THE BEST IN THE WORLD WAS MISSING.”

“Leo now has the Tricentennial medal in his hands. Thank you for always returning to the city that loves you. Thank you for being part of Rosario’s history,” they added in the description of the post, alongside a photograph of the 38-year-old captain with the award made by members of the city’s Numismatic Circle.

Although this new recognition is not part of the 48 official titles he has won throughout his sporting career, it further consolidates his position as one of the most outstanding figures in Argentine and international sport.

Messi is currently the player with the most titles in soccer history. With 35 cups with Barcelona, three with PSG, and four titles won with Inter Miami, added to the other six with the Argentine national team, Leo is ahead of Dani Alves with 43 titles and Andrés Iniesta and Marquinhos with 40.
