Stephen A. Smith isn’t winning friends in the NBA, yet he triggered a rare moment of camaraderie, as during the Los Angeles Lakersand New Orleans Pelicans matchup, LeBron James offered Zion Williamson guidance, combining mentorship with on-court support.

Williamson has been Smith’s latest target, which could have shaken the Pelicans forward, but James, as a veteran leader, ensured that negative commentary wouldn’t affect Zion’s confidence or distract him from performing at a high level.

Smith escalated a feud by claiming on First Take that Williamson had a “food addiction” and had been “busted hiding food under his bed,” comments that drew criticism, viral reactions, and sparked widespread online support for the Pelicans forward.

After the Lakers’ 110-101 victory, cameras captured James embracing Williamson and offering advice, which Internet lip-readers interpreted as, “Don’t mind the bullsh*t.”

It’s a phrase that resonated and reassured the young star amid media scrutiny and Williamson seemed grateful as he nodded and thanked James with a dab and another hug, showing his appreciation.

While also highlighting the importance of veteran support in helping younger players navigate public criticism and the pressures of professional basketball. Following Smith’s comments, the Pelicans and fans rallied behind Williamson.

So, James’ support served as more than a friendly gesture; it acted as a protective shield against relentless media attacks, demonstrating leadership beyond mere words.

Williamson recently revealed the mental toll injuries had on his career, especially rehab from a broken leg, noting that ongoing criticism affected his confidence, but James’ mentorship and encouragement provided a tangible boost to his morale before returning to the court.

Lakers edge past Pelicans

Meanwhile, Luka Doncic led the Lakers with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, while LeBron added 21 points, as Los Angeles overcame a late deficit to beat New Orleans 110-101, marking their third consecutive victory and showcasing a strong finish down the stretch.

Deandre Ayton added 13 points and eight rebounds, while the Lakers overcame 21 turnovers by scoring 14 straight points late, as Austin Reaves, after missing his first eight shots, finished with 15 points, helping spark a decisive 24-7 run that sealed the win.

Zion Williamson scored 24 points in his return from a one-game absence due to an ankle injury, while Trey Murphy III added 21 points and Saddiq Bey contributed 18, keeping the Pelicans competitive until the closing minutes of the West Coast matchup.

New Orleans led by eight points with just over seven minutes remaining, yet LA went on a 4:18 scoreless run defensively, with Reaves hitting a key three-pointer to take the lead at 96-94, while Marcus Smart and Doncic sealed the victory with clutch late three-point shots.

James added seven rebounds and seven assists, shooting 8 of 12 from the field, moving within two baskets of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA career field goal record of 15,837, underscoring his continued dominance at age 41 in critical games.
