There will be a key meeting to decide where Messi will play the Finalissima

Given the armed conflict in the Middle East, the Finalissima is at risk of changing venue. This is why CONMEBOL and UEFA will hold a summit with several issues on the table, the most important of which is to define what will happen with the match between Argentina and Spain.

Originally the Finalissima is scheduled for March 27 at the Lusail World Cup stadium in Qatar. Possible alternatives are now being discussed both in terms of venue and date, although it should be clarified that at the moment the match has not been officially canceled. However, Qatar has suspended sporting activities for the safety of athletes and attendees and there is no estimated date for the resumption of activities.

Where will the Finalissima be played?

So far, London and Miami have emerged as the main options to host this meeting. However, both possibilities have been criticized for their impartiality, given the proximity of London to Spain, presenting an opportunity for La Roja’s fans to make the trip. In Miami, the opposite is true in relation to the Albiceleste, in addition to the fact that Miami is the current home of Lionel Messi and the United States’ involvement in the armed conflict that has caused the venue of the Finalissima to be changed in the first place. Therefore, both confederations will have to reach a consensus on a venue that is as neutral as possible and prioritizes the safety of the players. It is therefore highly likely that the chosen venue will be in Asia.

The meeting on Thursday, March 5 between UEFA and Conmebol will be decisive in defining the new venue for the Finalissima.

Luis de la Fuente asks for change of venue for the Finalissima

For his part, Luis de la Fuente, coach of the Spanish national team, has already spoken out on the matter, requesting that the venue be changed to a place that can ensure the safety of the participants

While it is not possible to play there, look for another venue if possible

For now, we will have to wait until Thursday to know the decision of UEFA and CONMEBOL regarding this exciting match, which presents a unique opportunity to see the champion of the European Championship and the Copa America face each other in an official match.
