The Italian, who underwent several medical examinations at the beginning of August to determine whether he would arrive in optimal condition for the last Grand Slam of the year, has confirmed that he will not be in the singles draw of the New York tournament. “Although I have been working hard with my team and medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete in this year’s US Open,” he said on his social media.

Sinner, who has not played any matches since being crowned Wimbledon champion for the second consecutive year, explained that “we have returned to the court in Monte Carlo over the last few days and realized that I still need more time to recover from my right knee problem”. The Italian had already withdrawn from the Masters 1000 events in Montreal and Cincinnati.
His definitive absence comes one day after Carlos Alcaraz announced his return four months later. The Spaniard has been away from the courts due to a right wrist injury he suffered in April, during the Conde de Godó tournament in Barcelona.
