Caitlin Clark calls out NBA refs in defense of Stephen Curry

Caitlin Clark, a rising WNBA star, has been vocal about her admiration for NBA icon Stephen Curry. The Golden State Warriors sharpshooter and the Indiana Fever player share a mutual respect, with Curry occasionally endorsing Clark’s talents. This connection was further highlighted when Curry sported Clark’s player edition sneakers during his sneaker-free agency. Their bond is evident, and Clark recently showed her support for Curry after a tough game against the Charlotte Hornets.

After the Warriors’ loss, NBC Sports Bay Area shared a TikTok video where Curry addressed the physical defense he faced. Opponents frequently grabbed, held, and face-guarded him far from the ball, limiting his shooting opportunities. Caitlin Clark echoed the sentiments of many fans, calling out the excessive defense. “We want to see Steph making 12 threes a game. Stop grabbing him, please,” she pleaded, standing firmly in Curry’s corner.

Curry himself described the defensive tactics as “not real basketball,” though he admitted it was “flattering” to demand such attention. He added, “Just knowing that you demand that much attention. And then, it’s also funny at times, just how aggressive, egregious, it is.”

The parallels between Clark and Curry are undeniable. Both players are known for their ability to shoot from long range and draw heavy defensive attention. Clark, despite facing consistent pressure throughout her WNBA career, set a rookie record for three-pointers in a single season. She understands the challenges of being a sharpshooter under constant scrutiny.

Clark’s heartfelt plea for Stephen Curry after tough game

Clark’s admiration for Curry extends beyond the court. In December, after Curry returned from a five-game hiatus to face the Wolves, a video of his warmup routine caught her attention. Standing near the team’s tunnel, Curry attempted a trick shot from nearly full-court distance-and made it. Impressed, Clark tweeted, “This has to be AI,” showcasing her ongoing appreciation for her idol’s incredible skills.

However, their connection goes deeper than mutual respect and admiration. Both athletes had the chance to represent Under Armour as brand ambassadors, but this collaboration didn’t materialize. Curry ended his long-standing relationship with Under Armour in November 2025 during his sneaker-free agency. During this time, he wore various brands, including Caitlin Clark’s player edition of the Kobe 6 Protros.

Reports suggest that Clark played a role in the breakdown of Curry’s partnership with Under Armour. The brand had reportedly offered Clark a four-year, $16 million deal-better than Adidas’ offer but significantly less than Nike’s eight-year, $28 million contract. Despite Curry advocating for Clark to join Under Armour and even speaking to her via FaceTime, the deal didn’t come to fruition. This reportedly upset Curry and contributed to his decision to part ways with the brand.
