After shining against the Tennessee Titans, Shedeur Sanders delivered a strong statement to Drake Maye, one of the favorites for the NFL MVP award

Despite falling in painful fashion to the Titans, Browns fans witnessed the most impressive performance by a quarterback for the franchise since 1950. Shedeur Sanders showed why he was once projected as a first-round pick in the past Draft, even though that ultimately didn’t happen.

Against Tennessee, Sanders threw a costly interception in the third quarter; however, his overall numbers were outstanding. The former Colorado Buffaloes star surpassed 300 passing yards, threw 3 touchdown passes, and added 1 rushing touchdown. He also came within a single conversion of sending the game to overtime, but a questionable call by Kevin Stefanski prevented it.

Sanders’ three touchdown passes were all high-quality plays:

* The first, a one-yard strike to David Njoku with great placement.

* The second, to Jerry Jeudy, who broke free for a 60-yard score.

* The third, a perfectly placed 7-yard pass to Harold Fanning.

Without a doubt, it was a historic game for Deion Sanders’ son.

The comparison with Drake Maye came immediately

There’s no doubt that one of the best quarterbacks this season is New England Patriots second-year player Drake Maye, who is battling for MVP consideration alongside veteran Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Maye currently has 3,412 yards, 23 touchdown passes, and 6 interceptions.

What sparked discussion on social media was a stat shared by Polymarket Football: despite how great Drake Maye has been, he has never had a 300-yard passing game in his second year, while Shedeur Sanders achieved it in just his third start, against the Titans.

That’s how remarkable Sanders’ performance was – the best by a Browns quarterback since 1950, accomplishing something Drake Maye has not, along with several other milestones. However, the most important thing – the win – didn’t come, and Sanders now sits at 1-2 as a starter.

The positive takeaway is that Kevin Stefanski confirmed Shedeur Sanders will remain the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns for the rest of the season. He now has four games left to prove he can be the team’s quarterback in 2026, starting with the next challenge: visiting the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
