Ohtani and Japan bid farewell to legendary Czech who mistakenly struck out Shohei in World Baseball Classic

Shohei Ohtani was caught on camera applauding during the game between Japan and the Czech Republic. The images went viral on social networks. At first, it could be believed that the cause of his joy was the 9-0 shutout that his team gave to the Czechs, but it was not so. The Los Angeles Angels star did it as a sign of admiration and respect for a rival, pitcher Ondrej Satoria.

No one wanted to be on the diamond more than the Japanese player; however, in order to take care of him, the Japanese coaching staff decided to give him a rest. Nevertheless, he remained in the dugout to support his teammates and to bid farewell to the legendary Czech pitcher who struck him out in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

Satoria played his last game as a pitcher for the Czech Republic. As the saying goes, he hung up his glove. He said goodbye to baseball with his national team. He did so in Tokyo with a dream backdrop for any ballplayer, as the local fans stood up to pay homage to him. Instead of holding a grudge or anger for what happened three years ago, Japanese fans thank him for being a worthy opponent.

At the same time that the stands gave him an effusive farewell, Ohtani and company did the same. They wanted Satoria to leave through the front door with cheers and applause to let him know that he is a historic figure in world baseball.

Satoria, the hero against Ohtani by mistake

In the 2023 World Baseball Championship, the Czech made headlines for his trade: electrician. It was striking that a player in his condition struck out Shohei Ohtani, one of the great stars of Japan and elite baseball.

Oh, no. It’s a bad release

Ondrej Satoria

In his last pitch against the Dodgers slugger, the ball slipped out of his hand and seemed to go to the ground. For a pitcher whose fastball barely exceeds 80 miles per hour, it was strange enough to think the unimaginable: Ohtani swung, spun inside the batter’s box and his helmet flew off his head.

By mistake, his release was perfect. Ohtani bit the dust and fell in what was apparently a masterful play when in reality it was a carelessness.

The Japanese love Satoria

Since 2023, Japanese fans have been sending all kinds of gifts to the Czech pitcher. They hold him in great affection and respect. They consider it very valuable that he is a pitcher in a country where baseball is not a priority. They also appreciate that he struck out their idol, something that was appreciated with honor.
