Yankees urged to act fast to sign Cincinnati Reds player

The patience of Yankees fans is beginning to run out. With the calendar advancing and the trade market practically at a standstill, the pressure is on Brian Cashman to make a move that will revitalize the team and reignite the fans’ hopes of success in 2026.

That’s why a name is starting to gain momentum: Nick Lodolo, a left-handed pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds who could be the piece the New York rotation needs.

A quiet offseason raises concerns in New York

So far, the Yankees‘ offseason has been marked by conservative moves and renewals of familiar faces such as Trent Grisham and Amed Rosario. However, for many fans, that is not enough. At 33 years of age, Aaron Judge is still the central figure of the team, but the collective support is not quite there.

With just a few days left in January, the feeling is clear: the Yankees need to act more aggressively in the offseason if they want to compete at the highest level next season.

Nick Lodolo, a profile that fits in the Bronx

Among the names that have come up in conversations among fans and analysts, Nick Lodolo stands out as a logical and attractive option. The Reds left-hander would help balance a Yankees rotation loaded with right-handed pitchers, while also offering an uncomfortable repertoire for opposing hitters.

Lodolo is coming off the best campaign of his career, going 9-8 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in more than 156 innings pitched. His performance included two complete games and a dominant nine-inning shutout, showing a ceiling as a number one starter.

In economic terms, his contract is attractive as he is projected to earn around $4.3 million in his second year, a reasonable figure for a pitcher of his level. In addition, he is not prone to injury, making him the ideal reinforcement for the team.

Why would the Reds listen to offers?

Cincinnati has a deep rotation that includes names such as Hunter Greene, Andrew Abbott and Brady Singer, as well as promising prospects. That abundance could open the door to a trade focused on bolstering their offense.

For the Yankees, the challenge is in the price. There is talk that a deal could include Jasson Dominguez, a valuable young talent, but with less room for Judge, Juan Soto and competition in the outfield.

With several big names still available and the need to take the pressure off Judge, adding a reliable starter like Lodolo could make all the difference for the Yankees heading into 2026.
