The Detroit Tigers pitcher is a target for both New York organizations, and when it comes to opening the checkbook, the Yankees would not resist investing whatever is necessary to acquire his services. Fortunately, they have a card that plays in their favor.
It turns out that Skubal is represented by Scott Boras, who would be willing to listen to the Bronx Bombers’ offer to reconsider plans with the pitcher. The agent prefers the free agency option, a status Tarik will reach after the 2026 season.

Analyst Jim Bowden predicts that the Yankees would have no qualms about paying much more than Gerrit Cole’s contract to make the current Detroit star the highest-paid pitcher in history. The projection for his signing is $400 million.
An attractive combo
Bowden points out that the Yankees’ plan is very serious. In order to have Skubal on their roster and ‘steal’ him from the Mets, they would also offer a package that includes three players: Jasson Dominguez, Luis Gil and prospect Roderick Arias.
That’s a great package that Detroit couldn’t say no to.
Why are the Yankees and Mets interested?
His pitching has New York teams in love. His arm has them captivated. The statistics of his pitches in the 2025 season have them restless in their attempt to convince Scott Boras that they are the best scenario for his client.
Tarik Skubal was the Tigers’ best player in the campaign. He posted a 2.21 ERA in 195.1 innings, struck out 241 batters and had a 0.89 WHIP.
Yankees want to take revenge on the Mets and, incidentally, get the pitcher to have a powerful bullpen in the rotations. Along with Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole, they want to see Skubal in the locker room.
