The MLB season has just ended and teams are already getting to work to strengthen their squads for the next campaign. The Philadelphia Phillies are focusing their efforts on retaining Kyle Schwarber, but they are facing a problem in that regard, as the baseball player is a free agent. His contractual status favors the New York Yankees, another candidate who is also looking to have him in their ranks.

At 32, the left fielder looks set to follow in the footsteps of Marcus Semien when he moved to the Rangers on a seven-year, $175 million contract. According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, Schwarber is in a position to sign for a figure in excess of the $79 million he received in his previous contract with the Phillies.

Philadelphia Phillies wants Kyle Schwarber back, but just wishing won’t make it happen.

The player will have to listen to offers. This is where New York comes into the picture because they have the capital to acquire his services. Rogers puts the Bronx Bombers as a “real threat” to steal him from the Phillies.

Home runs, the object of the Yankees’ desire with Kyle Schwarber

Why are the Phillies and Yankees so interested in him? The appeal lies in his power at the plate. In four seasons he hit 187 home runs, a statistic that, by the way, is what puts him in a position to demand more zeros in the contract. His offensive line is .240/.365/.563 and he drove in Philadelphia’s 96 wins this season.

New York, for its part, has him among its top options in the event that Cody Bellinger leaves the team. Based on Rogers’ information, Schwaber would cover the urgent need to put together a lineup as soon as possible.

But what does Kyle Schwarber think?

Aware that he is a coveted hitter and available to listen to the highest bidder, the player is aware of the reality of his present, however, he does not hide his feelings. Changing teams and moving away from the friendships he has formed at Phillies is something that makes him a little sad.

It doesn’t feel good. You make a lot of relationships inside and you never know how it’s all going to end. You make so many personal friends with the guys, you spend so much time with them during the year. They become family.
