The Super Bowl LIX halftime show continues to make waves, not only for the comments about Kendrick Lamar‘s performance on stage, but also for his special guests, including Samuel L. Jackson and former American tennis player Serena Williams.

Talking about Williams‘ career on the court is to refer to the best tennis player in history, who boasts 23 Grand Slam titles and three Olympic medals.

The elder Williams sister is also one of the most listened to voices in the African-American community, and last Sunday she was one of the special guests of rapper Kendrick Lamar, but instead of enjoying the show, Serena Williams was part of the rapper’s ballet.

In one of the show’s climactic moments, the halftime show cameras focused for a few seconds on Serena Williams dancing on part of the stage, but it was not just any dance, as she paid homage to her origins in the Compton neighborhood.

This is the ‘Crip Walk’

This dance dates back to the 1970s, which is credited to the famous Crips community, one of the most notorious gangs in Los Angeles.

The Crip Walk or C-Walk is characterized by the fast and coordinated movements of the feet, forming patterns and letters on the ground. Serena Williams celebrated her Olympic gold medal at London 2012 in this way.

Due to its origin in gang culture, the Crip Walk has been seen by many as inappropriate. However, over time it has been adopted and popularized in music, sports and entertainment in general.
