Women’s football has grown significantly in recent years in terms of visibility and demands on the pitch. However, along with this growth, episodes of tension and physical contact have also become more visible, generating conversation in different matches around the world.

More than isolated cases, these are actions within the game that have escalated in intensity, leaving images of shoving, pulling and confrontations that have marked several recent matches.

LIGA MX Femenil

One of the most memorable cases occurred in Liga MX Femenil, during the Apertura 2025, in the match between FC Juarez Femenil and Club Tijuana Femenil.

In that match, Miah Zuazua and Natividad Martinez were involved in an altercation that began after a dispute over the ball near the sideline. The action quickly escalated with initial contact that led to pushing, falling to the grass and hair pulling between the two players, forcing the intervention of their teammates. The situation ended with both players being sent off

UEFA Women’s Champions League

During a match between Arsenal Women and Chelsea Women in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, forward Alyssa Thompson was involved in a controversial incident after a hair-pulling incident in the middle of an offensive action. The action was not sanctioned on the field, which generated subsequent discussion due to the lack of intervention by the referee.

SheBelieves Cup

In another scenario, during the SheBelieves Cup, the match between the United States and Argentina also left a similar image. Midfielder Jaedyn Shaw was brought down after a hair-pulling incident, which provoked immediate reactions during the match and later criticism of the refereeing.

Beyond the teams and competitions, these episodes have begun to be repeated in different contexts of women’s soccer, which has opened a broader conversation about the intensity with which these matches are being played.
