Kylian Mbappé‘s arrival at Real Madrid generated immediate expectations, and upon reaching the 100-game milestone, while comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo had been on the rise, they are now almost inevitable.
Both have left a significant mark on the club (Kylian continues to do so), and after these 100 games in the white jersey, both have achieved major milestones. How did each player’s journey unfold?
Real Madrid: Kylian vs. Cristiano after 100 games
The truth is that Real Madrid’s poor results since the former PSG player’s arrival have overshadowed the French forward’s achievements, as the team has won only the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, both claimed last season.
In this regard, Kylian can take some comfort, as Ronaldo’s early years weren’t exactly filled with trophies either. Real Madrid won nothing in his debut season, while in his second year he won only the Copa del Rey.
However, in terms of goals, Cristiano set an extremely high bar from the start with 95 goals (19 from penalties) and 8,160 minutes of play. Mbappé, for his part, has 85 goals (16 from penalties) and 23 assists in 8,464 minutes of action-some 300 minutes fewer than CR7.
Mbappé has scored 55 goals in LaLiga, 22 in the Champions League, 4 in the Copa del Rey, 3 in the Spanish Super Cup, and one each in the Club World Cup, the Intercontinental Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.
Despite this, one area where Kylian stands out is his ability to influence various phases of the attack. Although his role at Real Madrid is more that of a finisher than an assist provider, his overall contribution reflects a more versatile player compared to Cristiano in his early years at the club, as he has been involved in 108 goals.
Despite this, he is on the verge of wrapping up another forgettable season following Real Madrid’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League in the quarterfinals against Bayern Munich, as well as in the Copa del Rey, where their run ended in the round of 16 against Albacete.
In LaLiga, despite sitting in second place, Barcelona leads by 11 points, and with the Clásico set for May 10, they risk ending the season in humiliating fashion: either by having to form a guard of honor for them or by watching them clinch the title right there in the Clásico at Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, Mbappé has had an extraordinary and statistically brilliant start, though the comparison with Cristiano Ronaldo remains a tall order. Although the Frenchman still has plenty of time to close the gap, after 100 games, the all-time lead still belongs to CR7.
