The Yankees add pitcher Carlos Carrasco to their rotation and still don’t make a final blow

TheNew York Yankees have yet to make a splash to improve their quiet offseason in which their best signing was left-hander Max Fried>, who will make their rotation more powerful, but they have fallen short in their mission to strengthen themselves to return to the .World Series.

They also signed first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year deal and traded for Cody Bellinger, but backed out of negotiations for Pete Alonso and there has been no news on Alex Bregman.

Instead, on Monday, they signed right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco, who according to The New York Post, was offered a minor league contract.

Carrasco is a 38-year-old veteran, and according to Joel Sherman of The Post, he will have a base salary of $1.5 million with the option to rise to $2.5 million through performance bonuses.

He comes from playing for the Cleveland Guardians, where in 21 appearances he had a 5.64 ERA in 103 innings pitched in the 2024 season, before that he played for the New York Mets from 2021 to 2023, with whom he had 61 starts and posted a 5.21 ERA.

Are the Yankees going for a six-man rotation?

With Carrasco, the Yankees add a pitcher who will allow manager Aaron Boone to have depth in a rotation that looks complete with Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil, so they could have the option of using six pitchers to get more rest.

The move will allow the Yankees more freedom for a possible trade for Marcus Stroman, plus they have other arms that can back up the rotation in case injuries arise, with Will Warren, JT Brubaker, Allan Winans and Clayton Beeter, who could also be added to the bullpen as a reliever.
