The Ravens sign Diego Pavia as Lamar Jackson faces an uncertain future

The Baltimore Ravens have given Diego Pavia a route into the NFL after the former Vanderbilt quarterback went undrafted, although the move is better understood as a rookie minicamp opportunity rather than a guaranteed roster signing.

Pavia, one of the most talked about quarterbacks in college football, accepted an invitation to join Baltimore for rookie minicamp following the 2026 NFL Draft.

The decision puts him in the same quarterback room as Lamar Jackson, whose long-term future remains a major talking point despite his status as the face of the Ravens offense.

For Pavia, the move is about earning a longer look. He does not yet have a secure place on the active roster, but the invitation gives him a chance to impress coaches and potentially push for a developmental role.

Diego Pavia gets his Ravens chance

Pavia built his reputation through a fearless playing style, strong college production and a memorable rise that took him from New Mexico State to Vanderbilt.

His final college season brought national attention, with Pavia emerging as a major award contender and one of the most distinctive personalities in the draft class.

Yet NFL teams still passed on him across all seven rounds. Concerns over size, arm strength and how his game would translate to the professional level appear to have worked against him.

That makes the Ravens opportunity significant, even if it begins only as a minicamp audition. Baltimore did not draft a quarterback, leaving room to evaluate young passers during its rookie programme.

Pavia is expected to compete for attention with other minicamp arms as the Ravens assess whether he can offer enough value to stay beyond the tryout stage.

What it means for Lamar Jackson and Baltimore

The move does not immediately threaten Jackson, who remains the clear centrepiece of the Ravens attack.

However, any quarterback addition in Baltimore naturally draws extra attention because of the scrutiny around Jackson‘s future, workload and the team’s long term planning at the position.

Tyler Huntley is also part of the quarterback depth chart, meaning Pavia faces a difficult route even to stay in the building.

Still, the fit is interesting. Pavia is mobile, competitive and comfortable creating outside structure, traits that could appeal to a team built around one of the NFL’s most dynamic quarterbacks.

For now, the headline is not that Pavia has secured a major role. It is that the Ravens have given him a chance to prove the draft made a mistake.
