The New York Yankees hot start: Are they truly that good in 2026?

There is an atmosphere of optimism among New York Yankees fans after seeing the team’s strong start to the MLB 2026 season, where they dominated the San Francisco Giants without any trouble, sweeping the three-game series – a feat that allowed them to make franchise history.

Just as happened in the previous season, Aaron Boone‘s team swept a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. However, unlike that time, Yankees pitching was the big protagonist this time around.

It is also worth remembering that in 2024 they began the season with a four-game sweep against the Houston Astros, meaning they have now started the season with a season-opening sweep for three consecutive years.

Yankees achieve historic sweep

This is the first time in New York Yankees history that the team has swept its Opening Day series for three straight seasons. If sweeping at this level is difficult, achieving it for three consecutive years is simply astonishing.

In 2025, they won the MLB season opener 4-2 but scored 32 runs in the next two games against the Brewers, making it clear that Yankees offense is one of the team’s biggest strengths.

In 2024, they traveled to Houston and swept the Astros – a team that had reached the American League Championship Series in 2023.

For 2026, the sweep against San Francisco is a strong indication that the team can compete at a high level, especially considering that the Yankees rotation still needs to incorporate key arms like Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón.

The Yankees will now face a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners before their off day and their home opener against the Miami Marlins. Hosting the Marlins and the Oakland Athletics does not represent a major challenge, so they will look to take advantage of this stretch to build momentum, accumulate wins, and gain confidence while waiting for injured players to return.
