The New York Giants add more depth to the roster by signing DT Sam Roberts

The New York Giants are wasting no time in entering the 2026 season with fresh energy. Following the blockbuster hiring of legendary head coach John Harbaugh in January, the franchise has been on a calculated mission to develop the roster even more. On Monday, March 23, the Giants continued that trend, reinforcing the interior of their defensive line by signing defensive tackle Sam Roberts to a one-year deal.

Per NFL Network’sMike Garafolo, the agreement brings a strong presence to MetLife Stadium, as he is a player whose career has been defined by flashes of brilliance interrupted by a difficult road of injuries.

A career built on perseverance heading to NY

Sam Roberts’ journey to East Rutherford has been anything but linear. A sixth-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2022 out of Northwest Missouri State, Roberts has fought for every snap he has earned in the NFL.

In 2022-2023, he appeared in 12 games for the New England Patriots, showcasing the raw power that made him a Division II standout. Then, in 2024, after being released by New England, he had brief stints with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers, primarily as a practice squad depth piece.

He then found a spark with the Atlanta Falcons. He appeared in five games and finally recorded his first career NFL sack in a Week 6 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

His addition to the New York Giants roster is a low-risk, high-reward gamble on a player with unlimited potential. If Roberts can stay healthy and recapture his Atlanta form, he could be one of the best free agency wins that helps define the first year of the Harbaugh era in New York.
