The Mets are not worried about the latest moves and already have Pete Alonso’s replacement ready

The New York Mets are going through a decisive time in free agency. The Mets are already working on a clear strategy to cover the possible departure of Pete Alonso and take advantage of the departure of Brandon Nimmo to adjust the lineup with an impact left-handed hitter.

Rumors in the Mets camp have intensified since Pete Alonso decided to explore the market again. The “Polar Bear” wants a bigger contract and, according to various reports, he does not rule out signing with another franchise if he finds a proposal that meets his expectations.

Mets adjust to Pete Alonso drama

This stance has generated uncertainty among fans, but the management is confident that it is a natural process when a star reaches this point in his career.

What will happen to Edwin Diaz with the Mets?

The situation of Edwin Diaz is similar, as after opting out of his last two years of his contract, the best closer available is also listening to offers from other teams. His departure would leave a big hole in the bullpen, although in Queens they know they can’t make decisions in a hurry.

With Alonso and Diaz on the market, several teams have shown immediate interest. In the case of the first baseman, the Boston Red Sox are mentioned as a favorite destination.

Brandon Nimmo’s departure changes the landscape

While Alonso defines his future, the Mets have already moved a key piece: the trade of Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Marcus Semien. The move was surprising, but it also opened up a new possibility within the team’s offensive plan.

Mike Puma of the New York Post explained the strategic shift that led to the outfielder’s departure: “Brandon Nimmo’s departure has presented the Mets with another possibility that was previously less attractive: adding a powerful left-handed hitter“

This comment summarizes the current vision of the team: to reinforce the lineup with a left-handed power hitter who can produce immediately alongside Juan Soto.

Kyle Schwarber the ideal candidate for the Mets

In this context, Kyle Schwarber fits perfectly. His presence would add strength, discipline at the plate and depth to the lineup. In addition, his left-handed profile is just what the organization is looking for, especially if Alonso ends up signing in Boston.

Nimmo’s departure not only opens up space in the outfield, but also frees up financial flexibility to make a strong bid for Schwarber. The competition will be tough, as the Chicago Cubs and others are also in the hunt, while the Philadelphia Phillies are still looking to retain him.

Even so, the outlook looks favorable for the Mets. If Alonso makes the decision to move to Boston, the franchise already has the answer ready: to bet on Schwarber as its new left-handed cannon and reconfigure a more balanced lineup for next season.
