The mean side of Angel Reese: She uses photo of boyfriend Wendell Carter Jr. to humiliate ex, Jalen Duren

In the middle of the NBA Playoffs, it was a routine highlight that turned into a viral moment and once again, Angel Reese found herself at the center of the conversation.

The WNBA All-Star shared her reaction after Wendell Carter Jr. helped lead the Orlando Magic to a surprise 112-101 win over the Detroit Pistons in Game 1.

Carter‘s performance was one of his most complete of the season, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists while shooting an efficient 8-of-9 from the field.

Reese posted a clip to her Instagram story celebrating the moment, adding the caption: “GAME 1. PLAY THE SONGGGGG,” echoing a phrase commonly used by the Magic after victories.

But the play she chose, a lob dunk from Paolo Banchero with Carter soaring past Jalen Duren, quickly became the talking point online.

Within minutes, the clip spread across social media, with fans dissecting not just the play, but the context around it.

Rumors in 2024 had previously linked Reese and Duren, though neither ever confirmed a relationship. That background fueled speculation that the post carried an extra layer, even if there is no evidence to suggest it was anything more than support for her current partner.

Carter has addressed the noise that comes with their relationship before, emphasizing the importance of focus.

“We’re both competitors,” Carter said in an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson. “Before games, after games, we tell each other what we should do night in and night out and not to pay too much attention to the outside noise. We call it the white noise.”

For Reese, the moment appeared to be just that, backing Carter during a key playoff performance, but the internet quickly added its own narrative.

Carter delivers while Pistons search for answers

On the court, Carter‘s impact was undeniable. The Magic forward played a central role in Orlando‘s opening win, contributing across multiple areas and helping shift early momentum in the series.

His efficiency and presence inside were key factors as the Magic put the top-seeded Pistons under pressure.

In contrast, Duren struggled to impose himself, finishing with eight points, seven rebounds and one assist. The quieter outing came after a breakout season that saw him earn All-Star recognition and Most Improved Player consideration.

Detroit will look for a response in Game 2, with the series already carrying added intrigue after Orlando‘s road victory.

Reese balancing spotlight and new beginnings

While the playoff moment grabbed headlines, Reese is currently focused on her own next step with the Atlanta Dream, where she is preparing for the upcoming WNBA season.

Speaking during training camp, she reflected on the opportunity ahead.

“Can’t believe this is my life,” Reese said, expressing her excitement at joining a talented roster.

She also highlighted how playing alongside established teammates could open up her game.

“The paint is wide-open … everyone is on Lish and on Rhye, so it opens up the floor and makes the job easier for me.”

For now, Reese remains a visible supporter of Carter‘s playoff run, even as she prepares for her own campaign.

Whether her viral post carried deeper meaning or not, it underscored how quickly moments can evolve beyond the court, especially when high-profile athletes and personal storylines intersect.
