The GOAT hits the track: Messi confirms Miami GP appearance… but will he be riding with Colapinto or Checo?

The Miami Grand Prix will have a special event on the day of its race, next Sunday, May 3, race day. The reason is none other than the fact that, after the confirmation of the presence of Lionel Messi, the paddock of the Miami Gardens International Autodrome will be dressed with the presence of one of the greatest GOATs of the moment.

Argentine journalist Fernando Svaluto, who specializes in motorsport and is close to Franco Colapinto, broke the news that, barring force majeure, La Pulga will attend Sunday’s race as he has the day off, as on Saturday, September 2, Inter Miami will play the ‘Clasico del Sol‘ against Orlando City.

One of the motivations for Messi to be present in the paddock is the good relationship he has with Franco Colapinto, with whom, interestingly, he does not know personally despite having crossed paths on some occasion.

Messi’s presence in the paddock would be an opportunity to meet Checo Perez, as the Mexican and the Alpine driver are the only Latin Americans who speak Spanish in the ‘Gran Circo‘ of Formula 1.

In a post on ‘X‘, Svaluto said: “Messi has already been invited and replied: ‘If nothing happens, of course. I would love to visit Franco in the box. I could go on Sunday’. Previously, it is planned that, also if he can, Colapinto will visit his idol. It would be in a training session or in the concentration of Inter Miami“.

It should be remembered that Checo and Messi met in 2018 when the Guadalajara driver, who at the time was racing for Racing Point, went to see a Barcelona match against Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou and the official account of the Blaugrana club published the photo of the meeting between the two.

The relationship between the two is so good that Checo congratulated Messi on winning the World Cup title that Argentina won in Qatar in 2022.
