The Canelo Alvarez vs. William Scull fight is getting closer and closer. Next May 3, the 34-year-old boxer will try to beat his Cuban opponent and unify for the second time all the super middleweight world championships at the ANB Arena in Riyadh. But Scull heated up the preview.
Despite speculation, William reportedly made it clear that he will not go for the knockout: “I want to go out there and enjoy it and see what happens. He’s never been knocked out and maybe he’ll get knocked out, but I don’t know,” he told DAZN. “I’m working for a big 12-round fight,” he closed.
However, the Cuban fighter never said Canelo wouldn’t go after him and challenged him to do so. During a press conference, Scull sent a message to his rival and heated up the temperature in Riyadh:
These are comments from people who have no knowledge of boxing. The knockout goes out and the knockout happens, that doesn’t mean one thing, one thing has nothing to do with the other. Does he have a lot of knockouts? That’s fine, but let’s see if he can knock me out as easy as people say.
Confident and enthusiastic, he assured that he is in his best moment and that this evening will be “his party”: “I’m happy, it’s my party, what I’ve always done in my life. I was the last guest and I’m going to be the last one to take the show, because that’s how things happen in life,” he concluded.
How the protagonists arrive:
William Scull has an undefeated record with 23 wins, 9 of them by KO and holds the IBF super middleweight world championship. He won this title in his last fight on October 19 when he defeated Vladimir Shishkin at the Stadthalle, Falkensee.
Canelo has a 62-2-2 record and holds the WBC and WBO super middleweight world title. His last fight, in Las Vegas, was an emphatic one. He defeated Edgar Berlanga at T-Mobile Arena on September 14, 2024.
