The door for Oleksandr Usyk to fight Moses Itauma is wide open after Frank Warren’s comments

The heavyweight division in boxing is owned by Oleksandr Usyk. It’s impossible to deny that after the Ukrainian practically beat all the top opponents not once, but twice. But at 38 years old, fans’ eyes are already turning to who can be next up, despite Usyk still seemingly being in his prime.

Most of everyone believes Moses Itauma is the designated heir to Usyk’s throne. In fact, even Usyk himself has praised the 20-year-old. With a 13-0 record, Itauma doesn’t have the resume to face Usyk yet, but that hasn’t stopped rumors from running rampant. It’s a real possibility, and it may be more now than it ever was.

Moses Itauma’s next boxing match will be against a “Top 10 Heavyweight”

This week, Itauma’s promoter, Frank Warren, spoke a little bit about the young star’s immediate future. His next fight is scheduled to be on December 13 in Manchester. According to Warren, the bout will be against a “top 10 heavyweight”. That certainly qualifies Usyk.

If we go by The Ring’s heavyweight rankings, these would be the other heavyweights in the Top 10 aside from Usyk.

  1. Oleksandr Usyk
  2. Tyson Fury
  3. Joseph Parker
  4. Agit Kabayel
  5. Daniel Dubois
  6. Anthony Joshua
  7. Filip Hrgovic
  8. Fabio Wardley
  9. Zhilei Zhang
  10. Martin Bakole

Itauma slots in right behind them on the rankings list, so it’s not crazy that a fighter of his caliber, despite being so young, should get a shot at any of them. The time is now for Itauma to get the big fight in order for him to showcase his skills and potentially move up the rankings.
