Jerry Jones eyes Arch Manning’s teammate for Cowboys and Brian Schottenheimer makes first move

The Dallas Cowboys are no strangers to going fishing in the University of Texas looking for some young talent. Now, this offseason, the eyes of Jerry Jones have moved beyond the quarterback highlights of Arch Manning to a defensive force anchored in a familiar place: Austin.

According to recent reports, the Cowboys have officially signaled their intent to bring Anthony Hill Jr., a standout linebacker and teammate of Manning, to the “Star Franchise” in a move that underscores their urgency to fix a fractured defense. To make it happen, Offensive Coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and the Cowboys’ front office have already taken the critical first step in what could be a franchise-altering recruitment.

A meeting in Austin land

Last Monday night, ahead of the highly anticipated Texas Pro Day, the Cowboys’ brass hosted Anthony Hill Jr. for an intimate dinner in Austin. They counted with the presence of Brian Schottenheimer, who flew in specifically to be part of the meeting and greet the young prospect. While Schottenheimer oversees the offense, his involvement in high-level defensive scouting suggests a strong push in order to secure Hill’s arrival with his versatile skill set.

This meeting was not just an ordinary check-in, it was a targeted mission. After a 2025 season that Jerry Jones described as a “challenge” on the defensive side of the ball, the Cowboys are looking for new intelligent players who can thrive in Christian Parker’s new defensive scheme. About this, Jerry Jones said:

“I’ll tell you, when you have the challenges we had last year, there’s no place to go but up on the defensive side of the ball

By targeting a player like Hill, the Cowboys are looking for a hybrid defender who can stop the run and drop into coverage. Jones has already begun adding pieces to the secondary, but Hill is seen as the future glue that could hold the middle of the field together.

For Anthony Hill Jr., the interest from Dallas represents more than just a professional opportunity. For a young player whose stock is rising, having someone from the Dallas front office fly in for dinner is a clear sign of respect for his work ethic and potential. Let’s see what happens next…
