The dramatic scene that unfolded last Saturday inside the boxing ring in San Bernardino, California, left fans in shock as 19-year-old fighter Isis Sio faced Jocelyn Camarillo. During a sequence of punches, first to the body and then to the head, Camarillo displayed refined technique, yet Sio suddenly became defenseless.

Unable to respond to the relentless attack, she ultimately succumbed to the powerful offensive flurry delivered by her opponent. In a dramatic moment, Sio collapsed to the canvas, and when the referee approached to assess her condition, it became evident that she was unresponsive, prompting an immediate call for medical personnel to enter the ring and provide urgent assistance.

The young boxer was taken out on a stretcher and rushed to a hospital, where doctors induced a coma to reduce swelling in her brain.

We are deeply thankful for the overwhelming love, prayers, and support that have come from the boxing community, friends, fans, and people around the world.

Isis’s family confirmed this.

Fortunately, her recovery progressed quickly, leading to a positive outcome. Within days, she was awakened from the coma and began speaking again. This past Wednesday, March 25, 2026, she was discharged from the hospital and addressed the online criticism directed at her opponent, Jocelyn Camarillo.

The prayers lifted up during this time have meant everything to Isis and her family. God is great, and we truly believe He heard every single prayer that was said for her.

Boxing is a sport that demands courage from every athlete who steps into the ring,

The family said, and added.

The negativity that has been directed toward Jocelyn following the bout is upsetting to Isis, and she hopes supporters will continue to show respect and compassion for both fighters who shared the ring.

After the fight, Camarillo herself revealed she had received an unusual wave of hateful messages due to what occurred against Sio, insisting she never wished harm upon her rival.

This sport is dangerous.”… “and we all step in there knowing what’s at risk.”
Get well soon!!

Jocelyn Camarillo

Camarillo said,

Fortunately, a happy ending can now be embraced thanks to Sio’s recovery after the brutal knockout she suffered on Saturday, March 21, 2026. What follows now is her rehabilitation process, and, likely, she will never return to boxing competition again.
