The Dodgers receive unexpected praise from their rival Manny Machado: He encourages teams to invest

The Los Angeles Dodgers have become something of a villain within MLB, after winning consecutive titles that are the product of massive investment by management. For 2026, the strategy doesn’t change, and Kyle Tucker arrives to take the roster to another level amid the criticism the team receives and the possible introduction of a salary cap.

But not for everyone are the Dodgers the worst. At least not for Manny Machado, who believes they aren’t doing anything “evil.”

What Manny Machado said about the Los Angeles Dodgers

The San Diego Padres third baseman had nothing but praise for his former team, with whom he played before arriving as a free agent.

“I (expletive) love it,” Machado said recently, via USA Today‘s Bob Nightengale. “I think every team should be doing it. They’re figured out a way to do it, and the (stuff) is (expletive) great for the game honestly. I think every team has the ability to do it. So, I hope all 30 teams could learn from it.”

Machado referred to the most recent spending by the San Diego Padres owner as something that all 30 teams should be doing.

“I think a lot of teams have the ability to do what the Dodgers are doing,” he said. “We started it a few years ago with Peter, so everyone could do it. It’s just a matter if they want to or not.”

Manny Machado‘s statements come amid the possibility of a lockout in 2027, where players and owners must agree on a new collective bargaining agreement. Among the changes, a salary cap could arrive in MLB, and it’s precisely one of the main topics on the agenda.

Meanwhile, opinions are divided on the multimillion-dollar investments by teams. We’ll have to see if there is any significant change in Major League Baseball.
