After spending a year in Mexican football with Monterrey in Liga MX, Sergio Ramos – the historic Spanish defender and former Real Madrid player – returned to the Santiago Bernabéu to watch the match between Real Madrid and Sevilla, the club where he made his professional debut and for which he still holds great affection and respect.

The match corresponded to Matchday 17 of LaLiga, where Real Madrid had no choice but to secure a home victory. In the end, they achieved their goal, and with goals from Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé, defeated Sevilla 2-0 to reach 42 points, four behind Barcelona, who are currently the league leaders.

It was undoubtedly a positive win for Real Madrid to close out 2025, especially after a difficult few weeks for the team managed by Xabi Alonso, during which they even lost the league lead. In their last five league matches, they won only three, which ultimately cost them the top spot. Therefore, ending the semester with a victory is truly important.

Sergio Ramos congratulates Kylian Mbappé

While Real Madrid’s victory is always more important than any individual statistic, the spotlight against Sevilla was fully on Kylian Mbappé, who scored his 59th goal of the 2025 calendar year for Los Blancos, equaling the record set by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013 as the club’s highest goal scorer in a single year.

Mbappé’s 59 goals in 2025 match a historic Real Madrid record established by Cristiano Ronaldo 12 years ago. This achievement did not go unnoticed, especially by the former club captain, who was present at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Sergio Ramos, watching from a private box, later posted an Instagram story congratulating Mbappé with the following message: “Many congratulations, my brother Mbappé. I said it a long time ago… Number one.”

What will also go down in history is that after scoring, Kylian Mbappé paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo by imitating his iconic celebration (“Siuuu!”), as a sign of respect. It is worth remembering that Cristiano has been Mbappé’s idol since childhood.
