Ryan Garcia undergoes surgery and the appearance of his operated hand is shocking

Ryan Garcia’s career is going through one of its most delicate moments, as after his heavy defeat against Rolando Romero last May 2, the former champion has revealed the real magnitude of his injury by publicly showing his recently operated right hand, an image that has caused such an impact that many of his followers fear that he will not be able to regain his level or even continue his career.

What was supposed to be a tune-up fight turned into a disaster for Garcia as Romero outclassed him, making it clear that Ryan Garcia is still far from his best

Garcia barely threw 17.5 punches per round and landed just 48 power punches throughout the fight, well below his usual average, but days later he shared the reason for his poor performance.

What happened to Ryan Garcia?

The reason is that Garcia had been dealing with a serious hand injury throughout camp, but decided to go ahead with the fight using cortisone injections to cope with the pain.

However, this was only a temporary solution as the 26-year-old boxer underwent surgery on Wednesday by renowned Dr. Stephen Shin, who has already treated boxers such as Canelo Alvarez and Vasyl Lomachenko.

He recently posted an image showing the sutures on his newly operated hand, accompanied by the message “I’ll be back”.

However, a wave of negative messages have been present after his publication, among a mixture of concern and skepticism many comments doubt that Ryan Garcia can recover from this serious injury:

“Career over, he will never beat an elite boxer clean” or “Seems like it was self-inflicted… don’t believe that cheat,” referring to his positive test for banned substances.

When will Ryan Garcia return?

His own promoter, Oscar de la Hoya, has hinted that he is likely to take the rest of the year off to recover and be able to return to the ring, ruling out a possible rematch with Devin Harvey in the immediate future: “I would like Ryan to take the whole year off, to calm down, to find his balance again,” De la Hoya said.

Dismissing even a rematch with Devin Haney for the time being, De La Hoya said a second fight with Romero could be a future option.
