Robinho, a Real Madrid footballer from 2005 to 2008, is serving a nine-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2022 in Italy of gang rape committed in the transalpine country in 2013.

The 41-year-old former soccer player has received the good news that the Sao Paulo Court accepted a request for a reduction of the sentence by 160 days.

Robinho would have served his sentence in March 2033 and, with the reduction, could be released from prison at the end of 2032.

Robinho has managed to reduce his sentence by 160 days thanks to his work and studies in prison.

Robinho is currently being held at the Limeira Reintegration Center in the interior of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The reduction in Robinho’s sentence was not due to exceptional benefit, but to the legal recognition of 160 days of remission, obtained through study and work carried out during his sentence

Mário Rossi

‘Globo Sporte’ reported that Robinho’s defence requested an update on the reduction of his sentence on 7 January.

The former footballer, who was previously held in the so-called “celebrity prison”since March 2024, has had his sentence reduced thanks to the work and studies he has undertaken in prison.

“Robinho’s sentence reduction was not due to an exceptional benefit, but to the legal recognition of 160 days of remission, obtained through study and work carried out during his sentence, in accordance with the Penal Execution Law,” lawyer Mario Rossi told ‘G1’.

The Limeira Resocialization Center, the prison to which Robinho was transferred on November 17, houses people with no criminal record who have been sentenced to less than 10 years and have no links to criminal gangs.
