Robben ‘eliminates’ Real Madrid: “If Bayern are focused, there’s only one team that can win”

Dutch winger Arjen Robben, formerly of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, has given an interview to the Bavarian club’s official media in which he assessed the tie hours before the second leg at the Allianz Arena after the German triumph at the Bernabeu.

“For me, Bayern were the better team in the first leg. I think the result perhaps didn’t quite reflect their superiority, but you have to be awake and focused for the full 90 minutes,” he said. “Even if you think: ‘We’re 2-0 up and everything is fine…’. They can score a goal out of nothing. In football, a game is never decided and Madrid is the best example of that.”

Real Madrid can score out of nothing, sometimes they only need one or two moments

Asked about the white team, Robben sends a warning: “You can never rule out Real Madrid. I’m impressed that they always keep their cool. Sometimes they are comfortable defending very deep and then suddenly go on the counter-attack. Sometimes they only need one or two moments. You have to be aware of that. They have a lot of individual quality, but I think Bayern are better as a team”.

The former Bedum player, who played for the Madrid team between 2007 and 2009, spoke of the ambition of the club presided over by Florentino Perez. “They are always looking to build the best team and want to sign the best players,” he said. “They used to have the Galacticos. Later, with Cristiano, Kaka or Xabi Alonso, they also always had great players and great names,” he added.

If Bayern manage to stay focused, for me there is only one team that can win

Finally, Robben gave his prediction and gave arguments to see Bayern triumph. “It’s a solid team and, at the moment, everything is going perfectly for them. It’s a machine in motion and I think it will stay that way until the end! But it’s still football, there can always be a situation where there’s a red card or something like that. Of course, you have to be careful with that. You have to be focused for the 95 minutes. If Bayern manage that, for me there is only one team that can win,” he said.
