Pete Alonso to fire agent Scott Boras after his failure with the Mets according to MLB analyst

Time is running out for Pete Alonso to sign a contract before Spring Training and be able to start his preparation for the 2025 Major League Baseball season in the best possible way. With time running out, he may have to change his five-year plan and accept a short-term deal, still with the New York Mets as his main option, although he is getting further and further away.

The strategy used by his agent Scott Boras did not sit well with Mets owner Steve Cohen, and that is one of the main reasons why Alonso is not already back in Queens, as was his desire since he entered free agency. According to MLB analyst Evan Roberts, this was made clear to Boras and it will cost him to be fired as soon as the ordeal of the winter market is over.

“Pete Alonso told Scott, ‘I want to go home and you better do it’. Now Scott is testing the last little bit of power he has left to say. We’ve given you everything, Mets, now close the deal. Alonso will sign a contract and shortly after that Scott Boras will be fired. He’s going to be fired because he failed Pete Alonso,” Roberts said on episode 419 of ‘Rico Brogna: A New York Mets Podcast’.

Alonso reunion with Mets still possible

Although the positions are currently far apart, the Mets offer of three years and between $68-70 million remains on the table, so Alonso should take it and return to Queens, as even at the FanFest on January 25, team owner Steve Cohen expressed his displeasure, but accepted that “there’s always a possibility.”

“I don’t like the structures that are being presented to us. It’s very asymmetrical against us, and I’m convinced of that. I will never say no. There is always a possibility. But the reality is that we are moving forward,” Cohen said, before adding: “If it stays like this, I think we’re going to have to get used to the fact that we have to move on with the players we have.”

This week, the Toronto Blue Jays emerged as a serious option for Pete Alonso and it is a fact that he must make a decision soon, so that he can prepare well in the preseason and avoid what happened to other players from Boras’ agency, such as Blake Snell, who despite arriving in 2024 with the Cy Young label, had a late signing with the San Francisco Giants and that situation ultimately affected his performance. Now he will have a rematch with the Los Angeles Dodgers
