Lionel Messi‘s legacy at FC Barcelona is undeniable. Seventeen seasons, 35 titles, more than 750 goals, and thousands of stories are treasured by every Barça fan.

However, after his departure in 2021, several players who remained at the club and others who joined later followed in his footsteps, and today, one of them surpassed the 38-year-old captain.

Messi was surpassed by Barça’s promising youngster

Leo played for the club from 2004 to 2021 and became the top scorer and most decorated player in Barcelona’s history, setting multiple records. However, one of them was taken away from him.

Pedro González, better known as Pedri, arrived from Las Palmas in 2020 and played with Leo during the 2020-2021 season, the Argentine’s last.

Now, after playing his 150th LaLiga match against Osasuna (which ended in a 2-0 victory with goals from Raphinha), Pedri became the youngest player to reach this milestone at just 23 years and 18 days old.

The young player has been sidelined for several games due to injuries and still managed to achieve this milestone, although he could have done so much earlier. He played 37 games in his first season, 12 in 21-22, 26 in the following season, 24 in 23-24, 37 in 24-25, and 14 this season.

This record previously belonged to Lionel, who reached 150 games at the age of 23 years and 121 days on October 23, 2010. Messi scored two goals that day against Zaragoza in the LaLiga matchday 8 fixture.

Meanwhile, Pedri has become one of the club’s key figures, accumulating 220 games in total and proving that there is no age limit when it comes to breaking records.
