Oscar De La Hoya thinks Ryan Garcia ruined Devin Haney forever: “He looks lost”

We’re only a month away from one of the craziest cards in recent boxing history. Taking place in the middle of Times Square in New York City, three superstars are set to fight their own battles on the same night. Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez will all be in action on May 2, and they all have a lot to prove.

Lopez will be defending his WBO title, Haney needs to rebound from his troubling loss to Garcia, and Garcia is making his emphatic return from a one-year suspension. Although they won’t be fighting each other on this card, and possibly not in the future either, it’s impossible to not speak about Haney and Garcia’s previous fight. The media wants to know where both fighters’ minds are, and Oscar De La Hoya thinks he knows what’s going through them.

Oscar De La Hoya calls Devin Haney a “shot fighter”

The Golden Boy Promotions CEO will see three of his fighters do battle on the card: Garcia, Arnold Barboza Jr. (vs. Lopez) and Jose Ramirez (vs. Haney). While speaking about the fights to BoxingScene, something De La Hoya said about Haney really stood out.

Ramirez is coming in guns blazing. He senses the opportunity. I feel Devin Haney is a shot fighter after what Ryan Garcia did to him. It happens that quick, yes. I’ve seen his demeanor. He looks lost.

Haney and his father continue to wage war on Garcia in the aftermath of his suspension, refusing to let it go nearly a year later. Haney himself has admitted that he entered a dark place following the loss to Garcia.

Despite the bout being ruled a no contest, the physical and mental impact of it appears to still be haunting Haney. That could give Ramirez an opportunity to snatch an upset. Haney has a lot to prove and a lot to lose on May 2.
