A miraculous shot by Luke Kennard gives the Lakers their ninth straight win in dramatic fashion

For the first time in weeks, the Los Angeles Lakers found themselves pushed to the brink, needing a last-second miracle to extend their winning streak. On Saturday night at the Kia Center, that miracle arrived in the form of Luke Kennard, whose clutch shooting lifted the Lakers to a dramatic 105-104 victory over the Orlando Magic.

The game began in dominant fashion for the Los Angeles Lakers, powered by superstar guard Luka Doncic.

The Slovenian orchestrated a blistering start, scoring 16 points in the opening quarter as the Los Angeles Lakers surged to a 37-point first period.

It appeared early that the visiting side would cruise to another comfortable win, continuing their recent run of form. However, momentum quickly shifted.

Whether it was fatigue from playing their third game in four nights or the physicality of a young Orlando Magic squad, the Lakers struggled to maintain their early intensity.

Their offense stalled significantly, shooting just 23-of-64 (35.9 percent) across the final three quarters. Even reliable contributors like Doncic and Austin Reaves misfired on key attempts down the stretch.

As the game tightened, the Magic seized their opportunity. A stunning 22-2 run erased the early deficit, flipping the contest entirely.

Kennard delivers in the clutch

With the game hanging in the balance and only seconds remaining, Kennard emerged as the unlikely hero. Entering the game in the midst of a shooting slump, the reserve guard showed no hesitation when it mattered most.

On a baseline out-of-bounds play with less than a second left, Kennard buried a 24-foot three-pointer, sealing the one-point victory for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Magic had one final chance to respond, but Jalen Suggs‘ 69-foot heave fell short as time expired, securing the Lakers‘ ninth consecutive win.

Beyond the game-winner, Kennard delivered an efficient performance off the bench, finishing with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

His timely scoring proved crucial in keeping the Los Angeles Lakers within striking distance during their offensive drought.

Despite the struggles, Doncic still led the team with 33 points, adding eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals.

Reaves contributed 26 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while LeBron James chipped in with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

One concerning issue for JJ Redick

The victory pushed the Lakers to 46-25 on the season, marking their longest winning streak of the campaign.

Yet, the performance also highlighted lingering concerns for head coach JJ Redick, most notably at the free-throw line. The team missed 10 of 29 attempts, continuing an inconsistent trend that has seen them struggle from the stripe in alternating games.

Even so, resilience defined the night. What began as a dominant display turned into a gritty test of composure, and thanks to Kennard, the Lakers once again found a way to prevail.

They now concentrate on their next matchup against the Detroit Pistons on Monday, who will provide a tough test with a 51-19 record as they lead the Eastern Conference.

However, the Pistons will be without Cade Cunningham, who is sidelined because of a collapsed lung – and that offers a big opportunity to make it 10 wins on the bounce for Los Angeles.
