Former Chivas de Guadalajara player Omar Bravo was arrested on Saturday on charges of alleged sexual abuse of a minor, the Mexican State Prosecutor’s Office of Jalisco, in the west of the country, confirmed.

Bravo, 44, was captured in an operation in downtown Zapopan, after a complaint. “For his alleged responsibility in the crime of aggravated child sexual abuse, elements of the investigative police attached to the Deputy Prosecutor’s Office in specialized investigation in attention to women, girls, boys and adolescents, gender and family, managed to capture a man, identified as Omar ‘N’,” said a statement.

According to the investigations, the retired striker allegedly abused a teenager on several occasions in recent months and is believed to have previously committed similar actions.

Omar Bravo is a former Mexican soccer player who played as a forward. He is considered one of the most outstanding players in the history of Chivas, a team with which he scored 160 goals and won two Liga MX titles, an Interliga and a Supercopa MX.

Born on March 4, 1985 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Omar Bravo is Chivas’ all-time leading scorer with 160 goals. He began his career with the Rebaño Sagrado in 2000 and in his first spell with the rojiblancos he played 305 games and scored 120 goals. His outstanding performances with the Guadalajara team and the Mexican national team allowed him to emigrate to Spanish soccer in 2008 where he wore the jersey of Deportivo La Coruna.

However, his time in Europe was short-lived and in 2009 he was back in Liga MX where he had an irregular spell with Tigres UANL, Cruz Azul, Atlas and two more spells with Chivas. Among his achievements is his participation in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he was a reinforcement in the 2004 Olympic Games and league champion with Chivas in 2006. With El Tri, he played 67 games and scored 15 goals. He ended his professional career in 2018 when he played for Leones Negros de la UDG.
