Endrick to Lyon, imminent

Endrick is set to become a new Lyon player. The agreement between Real Madrid and the French club is expected to be formalised shortly, confirming reports that have linked the Brazilian with the Ligue 1 club for several weeks.

Endrick’s loan will be for six months, with no option to buy, as Real Madrid remain fully confident in the striker’s growth, despite not being in Xabi Alonso’s plans this season. Lyon will pay the player’s wages until June 30.

Endrick’s departure is logical considering that he has only played 99 minutes this season, spread over three games, most of them against Talavera in the Copa del Rey. Xabi Alonso is hardly counting on the Brazilian, whose main objective with this move is to gain minutes to earn a place in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup in the United States. A place that seemed to be guaranteed just over a year ago, but his ostracism in the current season has taken it away from him. At least for the time being.

The reality is that Endrick’s first season at Madrid was not easy either. Like Xabi Alonso, Carlo Ancelotti barely counted on the striker from Palmeiras, although the Italian was somewhat more generous when it came to giving him playing time. Most of his minutes came in the Copa del Rey, where Endrick scored five goals in six games, more than anyone else in a run that took Madrid to the final. In addition, the striker scored one goal in La Liga and another in the Champions League.

However, Endrick’s progress has been clearly curtailed this season, with little involvement except for the Copa del Rey match, in which he made his only start and showed good signs. The emergence of Gonzalo at last summer’s Club World Cup, with Endrick injured, has ended up being decisive in the Brazilian’s short-term future, in which Real Madrid still has high hopes.
