Official statement from Real Madrid on the controversy between Vinicius and Prestianni: “We have provided the available evidence to UEFA.”

Real Madrid has sent UEFA the results of its investigation into what happened last Tuesday at Da Luz during the match between Benfica and the white team, first leg of the Champions League round of 16 playoff

The white club, as MARCA revealed yesterday, gathered information about what happened at the Benfica stadium after Vinicius’ goal, before the temporary suspension of the match after the activation of the anti-racism protocol by Francois Lexetier, the referee of the match, after Vinicius denounced insults by Prestianni, the Argentine player of Benfica.

Real Madrid’s investigation focused mainly on what happened in the stands at the Estadio da Luz, where some home fans made racist gestures towards the Madrid players, especially Vinicius. They consider it difficult to prove the alleged insults of Prestianni towards the Brazilian. The Benfica player is said to have repeatedly called the Madrid winger a “monkey”, although he did so with his face covered with his shirt

The club’s statement reads as follows:

Real Madrid C. F. informs that today it has provided UEFA with all the available evidence on the incidents that occurred on Tuesday, February 17, in the Champions League match that our team played in Lisbon against SL Benfica. Our club has actively cooperated with the investigation opened by UEFA following the unacceptable episodes of racism experienced during the match.Real Madrid would like to thank everyone for their support and affection for Vinicius Jr. from all over the world of football.Real Madrid will continue to work, in collaboration with all institutions, to eradicate racism, violence and hatred in sport and society,” the club said.
