Tiger Woods and Vanessa Trump hit out at staff: A wave of layoffs over leaks as rehab seems to be going well

Tiger Woods has spent much of his career controlling the narrative through performance, but this time the battle is unfolding away from the fairways.

As the 15-time major champion continues his rehabilitation overseas, a series of quiet but decisive moves behind the scenes suggest that Woods and those closest to him are determined to regain control of both his recovery and his public image.

In the weeks following his DUI-related arrest in Florida, Woods stepped away from the spotlight and entered a structured treatment program.

The decision marked a familiar but critical turning point for one of sport’s most scrutinised figures, and it has been accompanied by a tightening of his inner circle amid concerns over leaks to the media.

According to reports, Woods and Vanessa Trump have reduced their staff, a move driven by frustration over the steady stream of information emerging during a sensitive period. “It’s not a big staff,” a source told Page Six. “They’re paranoid of leaks, and she hates the press.”

The message is clear: this phase of Woods‘ recovery will be handled with as much privacy as possible.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods said in a statement. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.”

A carefully managed recovery away from the spotlight

Woods‘ decision to seek treatment abroad reflects both medical and practical considerations. His legal team successfully argued for him to receive care outside the United States, citing the need for a highly controlled environment that would allow him to fully engage in the process without constant public intrusion.

Early updates from those close to the situation have been cautiously positive. Woods is reportedly working with specialists to manage long-standing physical pain without reliance on addictive medication, a key factor given the toll injuries have taken on his body over the years.

“He’s got a pain management doctor who is helping him deal with his body pain without addictive opioids,” an insider told Daily Mail. “He’s responding well to treatment, and Vanessa is very happy with what she’s hearing.”

Contact with the outside world has been deliberately limited, with Woods maintaining communication only with a select group that includes his children and long-time agent Mark Steinberg. The reduced circle is seen as essential to keeping distractions at a minimum.

Reputation, relationships and what comes next

The off-course adjustments underscore the broader stakes involved. Woods is not just a competitor nearing the twilight of his career; he remains a global brand with deep commercial ties. Any disruption carries implications that extend beyond tournament results.

At the same time, those closest to him have signalled stability in his personal life. Despite the intense media attention, reports suggest his relationship with Trump remains strong, with her playing an active role in supporting his recovery while also pushing for tighter control behind the scenes.

Looking ahead, questions about Woods‘ return to professional golf remain unanswered. Yet the competitive drive that defined his career has not disappeared. Those familiar with his thinking suggest he still believes he can compete again at the highest level, even as the timeline remains uncertain.

For now, the focus is singular. Woods has retreated into a controlled environment, surrounded by a carefully selected support system, in an effort to rebuild both his health and his momentum. In a career defined by resilience, this latest chapter may prove to be one of his most demanding tests yet.
