At the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, Novak Djokovic offered a candid take following his quarter-final victory over Flavio Cobolli, warning that Jannik Sinner will be a formidable opponent in their upcoming clash. Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, acknowledged Sinner’s recent triumph over him at Roland Garros and said that facing “the best player in the world right now” will require his A-game.

He didn?t mince wrods, “It’s going to take the best of me at the moment to beat Jannik”, underscoring the Italian’s rise and the challenge ahead. His respect for both Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz was clear when he grouped them as “the leaders of men’s tennis today”. The Serbian had also compared his game to the Italian’s in a press conference days ago; maybe this match will feel like standing in front of a mirror for Djokovic.

Djokovic’s path to the semis against Sinner

‘Nole’s’ quarter-final was far from smooth sailing. He overcame Cobolli dropping the first set in a tiebreak, then weathered a fall at match point before rallying to victory in four sets, 6-7(8), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4. The fall, which may impact his physical condition, came after he slipped chasing a Cobolli winner. At the end of the match, Djokovic assured that it didn’t felt too bad and remained hopeful for a full recovery within 24-48 hours.

Statistically, heavy hitters defined the match: Novak hit 39 winners to Cobolli’s barrage and committed only 22 unforced errors, proving why, even at 38, he still dominates the grass-court battle. Now, he ayes Sinner, hoipeful his resilience holds up.

Sinner’s form and injury, a mixed picture

Meanwhile, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced after beatign Ben Shelton in straight sets. Despite concerns over a nagging elbow injury that flared up in earlier rounds, he showed no visible pain during his win. Wimbledon’s media even reported Sinner would undergo scans before the semis to further assess the issue.

Their upcoming semi.final marks the tenth career meeting between Djokovic and Sinner, with the Italian leading 5-4 overall, including victories in five of their last six encounters. Djokovic’s comments suggest he knows this will be far more than just another match, it’s a defining battle between experience and youth, form and resilience.
