St. Louis City SC may have just produced one of the defining moments of the MLS season, thanks to a stunning strike from Marcel Hartel that has quickly entered the Goal of the Year conversation.

Hartel delivered the highlight in the 83rd minute of St. Louis‘ 3-1 win over the New England Revolution, sealing the result with a goal that left fans and players alike in disbelief.

After stepping in to intercept a pass from defender Brayan Ceballos, the midfielder didn’t hesitate. Without allowing the ball to hit the ground, he unleashed a long-range volley that soared past goalkeeper Matt Turner and into the net.

A powerful strike that could take the top individual honor

The difficulty of the attempt, combined with the precision and timing required, immediately elevated the strike into contention for the league’s top individual honor. It was the kind of goal that not only capped the match but also shifted attention across the league.

Hartel’s moment came after Simon Becher had already sparked the comeback with an impressive goal of his own, helping St. Louis rally from behind. Together, the two finishes turned the match into a statement victory. The result carried added significance for St. Louis. The win marked their first of the season under new head coach Yoann Damet, providing an early boost as the team looks to build momentum.

While there is still a long season ahead, Hartel’s goal has already set a high bar. If it holds up against the league’s best strikes over the coming months, it could remain a frontrunner when Goal of the Year discussions intensify later in the campaign.
