Mets receive a pat on the back… from Patrick Mahomes!

In an unexpected twist to everything that happens in the offseason of Major League Baseball, one of the owners of the Kansas City Royals, the famous Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, made a prediction about one of the National League teams, which is obviously not his own, as Kansas City plays in the American League

Mahomes praises Mets strategy

It is also true that it is not very common to receive feedback from an athlete who is not dedicated to the same discipline, and perhaps that is why it is more remarkable and worthy of attention.

Mahomes, who this week is one step away from immortality and the creation of a dynasty if this Sunday he beats the Philadelphia Eagles with his Chiefs in the Super Bowl, had a few words for the New York Mets.

“I think they’ll have a good opportunity. They have a good team,” Mahomes told the media gathered for the Super Bowl coverage when asked about the baseball season and the role he expects his Royals to play, in which he doesn’t trust much to say the least: “I hope my Royals can also defend themselves a little bit,” he said to the reporter’s laughter.

Investment is a forceful factor

And Mahomes’ response is rather obvious, as while the Mets are arming themselves to the teeth for the upcoming campaign with heavyweight signings such as Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Mark Vientos and Brandon Nimmo, the Royals – who last won the World Series nine years ago – have barely moved in the off-season and could surprise with a good prospect like Bobby Witt Jr. and also add veteran hurler Carlos Estevez to their bullpen, but that’s about it.

Just look at the resources invested that both teams have on their roster in 2025, as the Royals’ $106 million pales in comparison to the Mets’ $248 million, so if we take this into account, we will better understand Mahomes’ words, and that his team will have to make do with what it has, the aforementioned Witt or players such as Nick Pratto, Jonathan India or Seth Lugo.
