It was supposed to be a magical night at the Allianz Arena, but Real Madrid entered this hostile ground chasing a Champions League comeback that slipped away in the final moments of the quarterfinal second leg.

In that electric atmosphere, Kylian Mbappé once again delivered, scoring one of the three goals for the Spanish side – even though they were ultimately eliminated. His performance allowed him to match some of the greatest goal scorers in Champions League history.

After finding the net, the French star reached 15 goals in the Champions League, becoming one of the top scorers in a single season and joining elite company alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski, and Karim Benzema.

Most goals in a single Champions League season

  • 17 – Cristiano Ronaldo (2013-14, Real Madrid)
  • 16 – Cristiano Ronaldo (2015-16, Real Madrid)
  • 15 – Kylian Mbappé (2025-26, Real Madrid)
  • 15 – Karim Benzema (2021-22, Real Madrid)
  • 15 – Robert Lewandowski (2019-20, Bayern Munich)
  • 15 – Cristiano Ronaldo (2017-18, Real Madrid)

Following the Champions League elimination, Mbappé will no longer have the chance to break Cristiano Ronaldo’s all-time record, while also dealing with a painful exit in a competition where Real Madrid are always among the favorites.

Bayern Munich advanced to the Champions League semifinals with a 6-4 aggregate victory over Real Madrid and will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the next round.
